KUALA LUMPUR, 16 February: – Water@UTM is an interdisciplinary and collaborative research and training initiative bringing together experts from the range of disciplines including civil engineering, environmental management and business, interested in water related issues in Malaysia and the wider continent of Asia.
This unique and timely one day industry and research forum addressed the major issues facing the water sector in Malaysia, including how Malaysia can meet the serious challenges of water resource management, wastewater management, flooding, climate change and long-term sustainability of the sector.
This initiative came at a time of increasing scrutiny over the management of Malaysia’s water affairs. The recent floods in Johor and Kedah and the uncertainty regarding sector reforms in Selangor demonstrate the need for a clear focus on solutions to the country’s water related issues.
This event supported by the Malaysian Water Association (MWA) and the British High Commission. Distinguished local speakers from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, KPMG and YTL joined by prominent international speakers from the University of Leeds (UK), University of Swansea (UK) and Arup, one of the leading global engineering consultancy firms. Invited guests and delegates included representatives from the Malaysian water industry, government agencies, academia and non-governmental organizations.
The Water@UTM launched by Prof. Dr. Marzuki Khalid, UTM Deputy Vice Chancellor at Dewan Jumaah Universiti Teknologi Malaysia International Campus
